The W1000X Grandioso is the latest (nov 2009) evolution
of Audio Technica's luxurious wooden series.
Earcups carved out of a single block of black cherry wood,
then beautifully lacquered in Japan's grand lacquerware tradition to a
luxurious glossy shine.
This hard and dense wood has excellent acoustic properties,
giving a clear and resonant tone. It is also commonly used to make pianos,
and in constructing concert halls.
Floating Mount System
This is Audio Technica patented system of mounting the wooden
earcup on high-tech designed steel rings and dampening material before
attaching it to the Magnesium alloy frame. This allows the earcups to
reverberate more freely, faithfully exhibiting the earcups original wooden
acoustic properties.
